Why werent the beatles at woodstock

The story is they were told that promoters were considering it, but ultimately it seems nobody ever called Iron Butterfly back. Rumors of the Beatles ' appearance at Woodstock were everywhere, likely fueled by their surprise rooftop concert in London. Reasons as to why they ultimately did not play are just as rampant. One theory has John Lennon insisting that Yoko Ono appear on stage. Another cited immigration problems for Lennon. Still another, that the group simply couldn't get together at that late stage.

Another huge star, another raft of innuendo. Bob Dylan reportedly said no because one of his kids fell ill. There was also a rumor that he had become annoyed with the gathering hippies around his home, which stood near the town of Woodstock. Whatever the reason, it didn't keep him from playing another huge festival -- and just two weeks later -- at the Isle of Wight. Dylan reportedly left for England aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2 on August 15, , the day the original Woodstock Festival started.

Dylan then moved away from upstate New York, complaining that his house was being beseiged by "druggies. It's the poorly received Tony Richardson-directed biopic of a 19th-century Australian bushranger. Lennon expressed that he wanted to play Woodstock, but was in Canada and having a hard time getting back in the country at the hands of Richard Nixon. Led Zeppelin was asked to perform, but manager Peter Grant decided that they would be just another band at the festival and launched a hugely successful summer tour.

Drummer John Densmore did appear at the festival, however. Bob Dylan was in the middle of negotiations for the upcoming festival but backed out when his son fell ill.

He was also quite unimpressed with the increasing number of hippies accumulating outside of his house near the originally planned site of the festival. Dylan went on to perform at the Isle of Wright Festival two weeks later. The Moody Blues were included on the original Wallkill poster as performers, but decided to back out after being booked in Paris the same weekend.

Another theory is the belief that the large festival may have killed their career before it began. There was also talk of John and Yoko fronting an American-assembled group.

Apparently no follow-up took place and Apple had no presence at Woodstock. The muddy festival wound up being unduplicated, although people have tried many times. There was something about it that simply could not be repeated. Friend's Email Address. Your Name. Your Email Address. Send Email. This website uses cookies to improve your experience.
